After last week’s outing to the pub we had decided to go along the Manchester arm of the canal this week, but with all the rain we’d had recently and knowing the path along there would be flooded we decided to set off towards Moses Gate.
Last night’s trip was a short cycle around the Bolton canal and Moses Gate Country Park. The tow paths were really flooded in parts which slowed us down considerably and made it hard going. Off the path and on the mud paths was treacherous, no stopping down theses hills. After a few near misses with trees and other obstacles we descended into Moses Gate Country Park (Crommy Lodges)
Shortly after arriving in the park a cycle around the far side of the lodges revealed a slight problem with my bike, the handle bars had become loose (probably after an earlier altercation with a tree). Graham’s comprehensive toolkit was missing the one Allen key to repair the bike and to top it all then it started to rain. A steady but cautious return was agreed and to put it down to experience.
Riding a bike along muddy trails and tow paths with handle bars that wobble is not recommended but we managed to return safely and repair the bike ready for another trip.
