Round Trip
23rd May 2013
Journey Length 9.6ml
After Graham returned from his holiday to Corfu this was going to be our first ride out for 2 weeks so we decided to go on a short exploration around Little Lever. I cycled the short distance from Darcy Lever to Little Lever where I met up with Graham. We then rode round to St Mathews Church to find the grave of my partners dad, this we did with ease and after paying my respects we rode down Church St towards Farnworth.
We took the path leading down to Moses Gate Country park here we crossed the car park at the end of the canal at Hall Ln to the far side where we headed towards the fence but on approaching it I noticed it had been broken and stopped to avoid getting tangled up in the wire , then crash Graham crashes straight into the back of me to the amusement of 2 lads who had been fishing. “Oops I didn’t see you pal” said Graham as I stood there in my yellow hi-vis polo shirt !!!.
We then took the steep path down into Moses Gate Country park and around to the bridge over the river Croal and past the weir where here graham noticed he had a puncture ( oh yes yet another one ), the puncture was soon repaired with the spare tube we now carry as part of our kit. We then continued around past the lodges following the path up the hill leading up to Daley park and then turned left through Farnworth cemetery and down onto Cemetery road. Here we paused and decided to take the path opposite the cemetery gates leading us down to the river where we turned left along the bank of the river following the path until it became too narrow to ride along so we had to dismount and push the bikes which at one point became almost impossible, but undeterred we pressed on and eventually came out at the bridge we crossed earlier.
We took a short break next to the river and watched as a lone swan swam up the river before we went back across the river and up to the canal and along headed towards Nob End to see the swans nest but unfortunately for us the canal was over grown and the nest was well hidden and no sign of the swan or cygnets. We the rode up the hill passed the Meccano bridge back up Boscow Road where we departed company till our next adventure, Graham heading home to little lever and myself back to Darcy Lever just as the rain started to come down but as luck would have it I got home just before the heavens opened.
