Meeting Graham at the site of the old 7 Stars pub on Radcliffe Road we decided to head to Blackshaw Brook Woods off Tong Rd. Just as we set off we were both nearly killed when a 4×4 just turned left onto Tong Rd without a thought for Graham and myself, if we had followed the road to the right it wouldn’t have been able to avoid us and scarily would have no doubt taken us both out. Undeterred we continued on to Blackshaw brook where the previous week we had to abandon our trip due to Graham snapping his pedal off and was extremely lucky to only sustain minor injuries but it could have been much worse. We decided that the only sensible thing to do was to cut the ride short and enjoy the sunshine with a couple of pints sat in the beer garden at the Queens pub.
After deciding to take the woman’s advice we continued along the path which led us along the path which runs parallel with Radcliffe Rd towards Darcy Lever. Following the path as far as we could to Bolton County FC ground, we turned right and out onto the playing fields at New House Farm, here we took a breather before heading across the road into Leverhulme Park. On entering the park we noted it was extremely busy and we had to snake between the numerous cars vying for spaces in the car park. We rode along and down passed the Premier 5s football pitches and down the steep hill behind the pitches leading us down towards where we had entered the park, so about turn and back up the hill round the pitches and headed towards the far end of the park at Bury Rd.
Turning around we returned back along the path until we came to a path on the right just after the vehicle barrier here we followed it and it led us to the other side of Oakenbottom Rd. along the path until its end coming out onto Tonga Old Rd not wanting to ride along roads once again we tuned around and headed back but took a fork in the path which led us to High Bank St and then back down a path to the playing fields in Leverhulme Park but as we did we noticed a small stall selling fruit veg ,plants and eggs this was quite a shock as it was there totally secluded. Here we saw large groups of people doing keep fit with military style trainers. After taking a short break we noticed one of the instructors pointing over towards us and seemed to instruct his pupils to see if they could catch us, so hence to say we set off at a fair lick and around the pitches down the steep hill which we enjoyed the exhilaration of the speed and corners.
Exiting the park we retraced our steps back along the route we had come along Tong Rd before turning left along Victory Rd through the estate and onto Stopes Rd and right along High St to Koon Yum to pick up my partner Louise and my chippy tea of chips fried rice and curry, well deserved after a good adventure.
